Baseball and the...Bible?

How do you feel about Bible verses or religious sentiments on autographed cards?

UPDATE: I should have mentioned that the Micah Owings card, because of its sheer friendliness, is also in L's top ten.

Remember, the first three words of the Old Testament invoke baseball:
"In the big inning...."

FANTASTIC topic! I've wondered what other people thought about the bible verses included in their autographs, but never brought it up because I don't like discussing religion or politics. But since you did....

I have heard of people who seek them out for their collections. I used to look the verses up online, but I always felt a little strange about it because it seems so, well... "personal."

When Tipper Gore(let's interject politics, too) was on the campaign trail, she often had a camera taking pictures of the crowds who gathered to see her. Having a camera is a way to assert one's own viewpoint and not be an 'object' of attention.

Putting a Bible verse (or something else)on a card is a similar thing, an expression of self.

If I were a world famous baseball player, and lots of people wanted my autograph, I would try to control the experience somehow, maybe not with Bible verses, but with something. Hmmm, lots of adoring fans...maybe in another life.

This card will probably always be one of Lucy's favorites. When she grows up, she'll be glad it's signed to her and her mom.It will be one of her recollections.

Hi I just stumbled on your blog from a google search. I happen to collect only sports cards with the players auto on the card along with their favorite Bible verse. I prefer getting the auto and Bible verse on their rookie card, but have others also. Nice topic thanks!
