Well, ok, an exaggeration, but it is a dilemma. Tell me, what shall I do when on Friday, Micah Owings (our favorite player) pitches against our beloved Mets? GAAAH! Do we root root root for the home team? Which one IS the home team...where we grew up and had a home, or where we now have a home? What a great, exciting game the Dbacks played tonight...they were losing to Houston, and Micah Owings, pitcher, PINCH HIT in the sixth inning and crushed a first pitch (slider), opposite field home run to tie the game! The Diamondbacks won by a run as Chad Qualls and Brandon Lyon, relievers, held off the Astros. Randy Johnson only pitched four innings and did not get the win.

I most always root for my favorite team. But I do hope my favorite player has a great game against my favorite team.
In your situation I would root for a Mets victory in a 1-0 or 2-1 game with Owings pitching very well and maybe driving in that lone run for the Diamondbacks.
Joey, Now that I'm rational after the excitement of last night's game, this seems like great advice and I aim to follow it. Thank you! Patricia
I'm an ex-pat Philadelphian living in Houston. I face that same dilemma everytime the Phils and the 'Stros play. There have been a few years recently when I even thought they might meet in the playoffs. The last time the Phillies and the Astros met in the playoffs was in 1980 with the result of the Phillies going to and winning the World Series. That was 15 years before coming to Houston.
Unless the Phillies have a real chance at a playoff spot, I'll usually root for the Astros when they play each other. I figure if they ever face each other in the playoffs again, I can't lose.
By the way, I was just thrilled (not) when Mr. Owings hit that homerun. The D-Backs look like the real thing so far.
I heard that homerun on the morning highlights driving to work, and immediately thought about how exciting that must have been for you.
I was amazed when the announcers stated that was the first pinch hit homer by a pitcher since 1990!!
Really?!?! It happened before?!?! A pitcher pinch hitting and then hitting a home run?!?! And his name wasn't George Herman Ruth?!?!
rounding--it was a classic, we loved it!
