Random acts of signed-ness.

Mr. Burke is a travelin' man, and that's just what playing in the Major League seems to be all about these days. On December 14, 2007, he was traded to the Diamondbacks. He was non-tendered following the 2008 season and became a free agent. On January 13 of this year, he signed a minor league contract with the Padres but didn't make the team in spring training. Then he was traded to the Mariners for cash. But in April, Mr. Burke was traded back to the Padres and added to their roster. On June 19, he signed a minor league contract with the Braves. WHEW.
With the National's AAA affiliate in Syracuse. His brother John played for the St. Louis Cardinals.
That is a Disney character's name, isn't it, Taber Lee? Isn't he Mustafa's uncle or something? This Mr. Baseball Lee was selected by the Pirates in the 3rd round of 2002 amateur entry draft. (This is a 2002 Bowman card.) He stayed six seasons with Pirates affiliates until 2007, reaching Triple-A in 2006. He batted .238 (.337/.325) in 535 games. He mostly was used as a shortstop or second baseman. In January, the Italian Baseball League club REGGIO EMILIA signed catcher Pete Farina along with Mr. Lee as an infielder. Ok...we didn't know Italy had a baseball league. Cosa c'è di sbagliato con me?

None of the news about Mr. Hillenbrand is good. Here's a link to one of countless discussions characterized by extensive repetition of the word "jerk." And here is a Baseball Think Factory link that also takes as a given that this is not a guy many people want on their team. It's funny, gossip is not one of the things we usually consider in relation to baseball.
