Pat Neshek says, "Do Not Rip This Card!"

Well, he might have been influenced by our letter and poll, but as usual baseball player/baseball card collector Pat Neshek came through with a great autograph. When we ran this post inquiring whether we should tear into our 1/99 Pat Neshek rip card, the poll quickly amassed 106 votes, and our interpretation was, "don't rip." Instead, we sent it to Mr. Neshek and as you can see, he agrees with the assessment. He also sent back two other signed cards and by golly, we now officially collect Pat Neshek baseball cards. We wonder if he is honored to be included with our other recent object of fervent interest, Moe Drabowsky?
May we stop for a moment to give that logo some love? This minor league card has one flaw: same picture on front and back, one of our pet peeves about card design. But we give it a pass because it's a minor league card, because Pat Neshek sent it to us, because it has plenty of light area for a good signature, and because of that rockin' logo. Wait a minute, if that sounds like we totally forgive the card for using the same photo twice, it's because we do.
The other card Mr. Neshek sent uses a different photo on front
and on the back

and plenty of statistical chitchat.

By the way, in a related development, we suspect that getting a high number of votes on that last blog poll indicates:

1) people are interested in rip cards,
2) people are interested in Pat Neshek,
3) people are interested in Allen & Ginter, and
4) people answer well-posed questions.

The current poll, at right, has been there for nearly two full days and has only generated 20-ish votes. So in the future, we'll try to remember number 4. Still, we're a little shocked that "Surely you jest" isn't the unanimous choice. Lefty Grove vs. Tim Lincecum? Really? It goes to show what an unpredictable, intriguing group of people collect baseball cards.

Pat Neshek seems like a cool dude.

Surely you jest defiitely should be the unanimous choice, that's for sure.

Moe Drabowsky? Interestingly enough, I am looking for some of his Orioles cards myself. He was quite a clown, based on what I've read about him.

Wouldn't it have been more interesting if he wrote "rip this card!" on it?

Not sure if it would have been MORE interesting but it would have been at least AS interesting. :)

Wow, what a great post!!! I love the card, love the auto, love the Neshek... He is one of the coolest players in the game, really anxious to seem him start playing again. I love the auto and the instructions. I really like rip cards-they are one of the really cool parts of a and g. I have ripped every one that i have pulled, but if i lucked out and got a Neshek, i would do the same thing... Moe Drabowsky was one of the funniest, coolest, wisest and best people i ever met in baseball. He was a serious prankster and he got me good many, many times. I miss him A LOT!

I agree - he's got a great sig! I think it's really cool that he took the time to add a very personal, pointed message, too. Bet you won't find many more that would do that...
