Update: David Wright won't wear the helmet!

The Associated Press reports:

"Mets third baseman David Wright switched back to his old batting helmet Thursday after trying out Rawlings' bulky new model. Wright used the S100, which Rawlings says can withstand a 100 mph fastball, in his first two games following a stint on the 15-day disabled list with a concussion courtesy of a Matt Cain fastball on Aug. 15.

'It's just not comfortable,' Wright said of the new helmet that will be required in the minors next season. 'The last thing I need to worry about in the box is to try to shove it on my head. I will stay with the one I used today.'

Wright had three hits and three RBIs as New York beat Colorado 8-3 to avoid a three-game sweep. The all-star third baseman went 1 for 3 and scored a run Tuesday, then grounded out as a pinch hitter Wednesday night."

Sell your Rawlings stock!

Our David apparently has little interest in paying tribute to the Great Gazoo:

What do you think?

I think he -- and everybody else -- should be wearing the new helmets. It's silly to refuse to use better protective equipment because of its appearance.

Wow, that video really shows just how gigantic that helmet really is. Maybe they can compromise and come out with a slightly smaller S80?

I have never heard so many Great Gazoo references in all my life. (I am to blame for one of them).
